Thursday Talent: Chloe Early

20 Jan

So my first stuff4designers post! Just a quick note to say i’m delighted to be blogging with the scarily-knowledgeable Bitka and Richie.  My Thursday slot is going to focus on exceptional (according to me!) artists and illustrators, with some designers and animators thrown in for good measure.  You can expect a nice mix of established national and international artists, as well as some relative unknowns that I come across.  I’ll try and keep it Irish at least once a month, there’s a lot of really interesting stuff happening at home!

So to kick us off, the amazing talent of Chloe Early.  Chloe was raised in Cork and studied art at NCAD in Dublin, she has exhibited widely in Ireland, the UK and the US and is now based full time in London.  Her paintings are absolutely stunning, i’ve yet to see any of them in the “flesh” (often oils and acrylics on aluminum or linen in this case).  The images online give a sense of complexity, depth, fantastic colour and a captivating combination of both the real and unreal.  They are fantastic dreamscapes, there’s a sense of decay, in terms of a colourful, multi-faceted disintegration into pure abstraction and imagination.  Early has some favourite motifs that recur through a lot of her paintings, urban architecture and representations of glamourous luxury and beautiful people combine with fragmented landscapes, and more industrial (sometimes warlike) symbols of the modern world, all of it humming with colour.

Chloe’s own site is here, and there’s loads of online information about her if you want to learn / see more.
